MEET MARK SCRIMSHAW BAILDON PARISH COUNCIL ENVIRONMENTAL WARDEN

Mark started work in June and his role is to be the eyes and ears of Baildon. He will work on day to day reporting of issues and will also have project work that will benefit the Baildon environment.

Mark writes ‘I was born in Shipley and attended The Salt Grammar School before

studying estate management at Leicester Polytechnic.I then worked for the

parks service in Cambridge for nearly 4 years. In 1981 I joined the

Police in West Yorkshire, based initially in Leeds and Otley then from

1986 to 2010 in Shipley. Amongst my normal duties I was appointed a

Police Wildlife Officer in 1990, one of the first in the country.

I have had a lifelong interest in nature, perhaps beginning through my

weekly visits to my grandparents' tiny wooden house across Baildon Moor

where I would catch tiddlers in the stream and see weasels, little

owls, shrews and wood-wasps.

I have been married to Debbie for nearly 30 yrs and we have four children.

We live in Shipley and enjoy outdoor life whenever we have the chance,

with the rich and varied moors and woodlands of Baildon providing regular

interest’.

Mark hopes in his role to provide an enthusiastic and readily available channel for residents` concerns about their neighbourhoods and surroundings in general. Where appropriate he will refer issues to other bodies who may be best placed to deal with them. He will aim to provide feedback on any action that has been taken or is planned. With his special interest in nature Mark hopes to help promote Baildon as a special place for nature.
